Description

How it started Massimo Orione born and raised in *Piemonte, in northern Italy. His  family that raised its own chickens, eggs, vegetables, rabbit and veal for the table. His  family’s veg and fruit was home-grown and preserved for the leaner months. Families would club together and buy a large consignment of meat to save money. The home-made produce was complimented by special bought items such as truffles and amazing cheeses with cows’ and sheeps’ milk, as well as seasonal delights like locally gathered figs, wild mushrooms, hazelnuts and chestnuts. They still celebrate today the trade links with Liguria with ‘bagna cauda’ – a autumnal ‘fondue’ style dish made with anchovies– and veg to dip. Massimo tries  to offer the best of Piemonte at Massimo’s, while still celebrating many of Italy’s popular dishes. Massimo and his wife Tracy visited Cape Town in 2003 and fell in love with this beautiful village of Hout Bayand decided to make this their home. This lead to the formation of “Massimo’s Pizza Club ” in 2009 – a small team of 4 staff members and together with Massimo and Tracy all ingredients were prepared off site and brought daily to be sold at a restaurant they shared. Today Massimo’s has grown into a thriving and popular restaurant in Cape Town , earning the title of “best pizza in South Africa”  Massimo’s is a huge part of the community of Hout Bay , contributing and supporting various charities in Hout Bay and helping to improve the lives. Massimo’s are now open 7 days a week for lunch & dinner and employ approximately 20 staff.
